Shopping & Services

The Twin Shores campground is just a half km down the road from Robi Road. There, you''ll find a dairy bar and small convenience store. The selection is limited but you'll find any basics you might need. The best place for groceries is the Save Easy in Kensington. It's open on Sundays for your convenience. Just head back to town and go straight through the lights - it's only a short distance past the traffic signal on the left. Kent, in Kensington is the closest hardware store in the area. It's on your right hand side as you head back into town. There are Petro Canada and Irving gas stations in Kensington along with a Scotiabank and Credit Union. There is a car wash, a video rental store and gift shops. There is also a liquor store next to the restored rail station that is now a popular pub.

Fresh Lobster & Seafood

Carr's fresh seafood market can be found in Stanley Bridge on Route 20 along the north shore.

They also operate a seafood restaurant that is a summer favourite with the cottage crowd as much as it is with the locals.

Dining Out

Restaurants and tourist attractions can be found in several of the towns along the north shore. Carr''s Oyster Bar in Stanley Bridge is a great waterfront restaurant/pub. Some of the finest dining on the island can be found at The Dalvay near Stanhope and The Olde Mill Restaurant in New Glasgow. When leaving Lower Darnley Road, turn left onto Highway 20 and follow the scenic route to French River,

Seaview, Stanley Bridge and New London. It is a beautiful drive along the gulf coast.

General Cottage Care

Our Darnley retreat is something we use ourselves and enjoy sharing with others. We have caretakers that prepare The Dunes for the arrival of our guests and we kindly ask that you leave the cottage as you found it.

  • Smoking is not permitted inside the beach house

  • Pets are not permitted at The Dunes

  • Please don't use the countertop as a cutting board - one is provided

  • Please wash pots, pans and chef's knives by hand, not in the dishwasher

  • Please cook lobster or crab outside using the propane-fired lobster pot

  • Please bring in the outdoor furniture cushions if it begins to rain

After all, we want The Dunes to last forever so we can all enjoy it over and over again.
